SISAP Adventure – SISAP 2021
We have set up a SISAP Adventure for the social gatherings at the conference. You can find the link on the Eventbrite post-registration page.
Technically, it uses the open-source WorkAdventure software for online social gatherings (which supports standard web browsers such as Firefox and Chrome).
We are using a self-hosted installation at the TU Dortmund University, operated by the computer science students union. OH14.de stands for “Otto-Hahn-Straße 14”, the main computer science building. We are grateful for allowing us to use their installation.
Basics:
- walk around with your avatar (use Shift to run)
- you can zoom out with the mouse wheel to get an overview (its faster zoomed in, though)
- use the Space bar to activate, e.g., Jitsi conference rooms and posters
- if you are close to others, you can have on the fly peer-to-peer video and audio chat
- circles are limited to 4 participants, for larger groups use the Jitsi zones available everywhere
- a red circle is full
- we disabled on-the-fly circles in the poster area in favor of Jitsi
- if keyboard focus is in Jitsi, you cannot move your avatar. Closing the side window should help.
Note: we have observed some minor glitches and bugs, but overall it works fine; and the software is getting better every version.
- on-the-fly ``circles’’ sometimes do not work right. Try leaving the circle and re-entering.
- circle communication is peer to peer WebRTC, and may be blocked by firewalls, Jitsi is more reliable
- if the server was restarted, you need to clear the cache if it keeps on reconnecting
- sometimes, a side frame does not load properly, retry leaving and re-entering the area
- sometimes the browser is confused, closing the tab and reopening helps
- when entering the main Zoom room, manually turn off your video and audio in Workadventure
- WorkAdventure can drain your battery - it may be reasonable to close it during the presentations, and zoom in
